A.C. Frieden (aka André Frieden) is a Swiss-Brazilian author and attorney living in Chicago. André was born in the West African country of Senegal and raised in India, Switzerland and the U.K. before moving to the southern United States in the 1980s. He then returned to serve in the Swiss Army as a marksman and later received undergraduate and graduate degrees in molecular biology in Texas, followed by a Juris Doctor in New Orleans, Louisiana. He also studied law at Moscow State University law school in Russia and at the Vienna Juridicum in Austria and worked as a legal analyst for the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. In 1997, André moved to Chicago to obtain an LL.M. in intellectual property law and to begin his legal career. He worked for two major law firms over several years before taking his current position as senior intellectual property counsel with Follett Corporation, North America's largest educational services company.
His background as a molecular biologist, attorney, private pilot, martial artist, professor, army sniper, along with his global experiences, comes together in his novels, including his latest legal/espionage thriller Tranquility Denied (Avendia Publ., 2006). His work also appears in a new series of anthologies, the first of which is SIN: A Deadly Anthology (Sep. 2008). In addition to writing fiction, he served as a freelance writer for Accenture and writer/editor for several other organizations. His works have also appeared in numerous professional publications, including the National Law Journal, BNA International periodicals and various CLE books. He also teaches media law at Columbia College Chicago. At the moment he is working principally on two political thrillers, the first one following extensive investigative travel since 2007 in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Uruguay, and Venezuela, and the other novel in Vietnam.
